Grade 100 Chain Sling Information
Chain slings are perfect for industrial applications such as tool and die, moldmaking, metalworking, or any other application requiring a strong, durable lifting device. Chain slings are perfect for applications where an edge may cut a fabric sling, or kink or otherwise damage wire rope. Chain slings do not stretch under load at all, and take up a minimal amount of storage room. Chain slings are excellent for use in higher heat environments that may destroy other slings, with an operating temperature range of -40ºC to 204ºC (-40ºF to 400ºF). Chain slings have many different configurations to suit almost any lifting requirement.
Working Load Limit
Grade 100 has become the new standard for overhead lifting chain slings. While Grade 80 is still legal for use in most jurisdictions, Grade 100 has a higher working load limit for the same size and weight of chain and components and no longer commands a premium price. That is why RiggingCanada.ca provides only Grade 100 chain assemblies. However, Grade 80 components are available in our store!
Components & Availbility
We distribute chain slings made from high-quality, made in USA, Columbus-McKinnon Grade 100 chain. This chain is exceptionally durable and strong, has been proof-tested at the factory, and meets NACM and ASTM standards. All of our chain slings are assembled in Canada. Components are a mixture of imported and domestic material, depending on configuration and availability. Bulk quanities of grade 100 chain are also available. Delivery time is important! Our chain slings typically ship within 48 hours; some larger sizes (¾” assemblies typically) may take 3 to 4 days. You will be sent a confirmation with a ship date upon placing your order.
Our Grade 100 chain slings are available in single, double, triple, or quadruple-leg configurations. Each of these may also be configured to be adjustable. Sample pictures for each style are shown on each page; only the length of the chain legs will change. A variety of end fittings are available including standard sling hooks, grab hooks, self-locking hooks, or foundry hooks depending on your application. Custom Slings are available. Chain Sling Length
Our Grade 100 chain slings are measured from bearing point to bearing point; this is also indicated clearly on each page.
Chain Sling Tag
Our Grade 100 chain slings each feature a tag including a Unique serial number, Link size, Overall Length, Grade of chain, Sling configuration and Working load limits. In the case of a multiple-leg sling, the working load limits will be shown for 60 degree, 45 degree, and 30 degree angles. Never exceed the working load limit of any sling, and never use a sling at an angle of less than 30 degrees.
Chain Sling Inspection
It is vital to regularly inspect chain slings for wear and damage (from excessive heat, abrasion, overloading, physical impact damage, etc). Most jurisdictions require an inspection with documentation by a competent person at least annually. Consult your individual jurisdiction's legislation for more information.
Chain Sling Usage
Chains should not be used outside of the -40ºC to 204ºC (-40ºF to 400ºF) temperature range without consulting the chain manufacturer. The specific working load limit reductions for grade 100 chains used at and after exposure to elevated temperatures are shown below.
If grade 100 chain is worn to less than the minimum allowable thickness(T), remove the chain from service. Minimum allowable chain thicknesses for each size are shown below.
